Definition
An AHRI certificate is a record from the AHRI Certification Directory listing the certified efficiency ratings, such as SEER2, EER2 and HSPF2, for one specific combination of outdoor unit, indoor coil or air handler, and sometimes furnace. Each matched combination has its own AHRI reference number, so a mismatched pairing may not carry the advertised rating.
Also called: AHRI reference number, AHRI Certificate of Product Ratings
Why it matters to you
Efficiency-based incentives in this market, including Clark Public Utilities' heat pump programs and Energy Trust of Oregon offers, depend on the installed equipment meeting the program's requirements, and rebate programs and tax forms often ask for the AHRI reference number to document a matched system's ratings. It also lets you compare quotes on the exact combination being installed, not just the outdoor unit's brochure number.
Practical guidance
Ask for the AHRI reference number for the exact matched system on your quote and keep a copy of the certificate with your invoice and model numbers. If a contractor swaps any component before install, ask for the updated certificate.
