How Long Can An AC Run Continuously?
Keep your AC running efficiently with continuous maintenance. Contact Home Energy Group today to ensure your system performs at its best!
Many HVAC specialists warn us that running the AC all day, every day, can be costly. It not only wears out the unit, but it can also raise your electricity bills. In some cases, a constantly running air conditioner is acceptable because some energy-saving systems are designed to operate at full capacity throughout the day.
How long should you leave your air conditioner on each day?
An average air conditioning unit should run for 15 to 20 minutes on a hot or humid day. The indoor temperature should reach your desired setting after 20 minutes, and the unit will turn off on its own. Your air conditioner will turn off until the temperature rises above your set point, then turn on again, repeating the cycle throughout the day and night. When the temperature is consistently over 80 or 90 degrees throughout the day, your air conditioner may need to run more frequently to keep up. It may never turn off in some cases, which is fine!Factors influencing the length of time the AC runs include:
- The temperature outside
- The temperature setting on the thermostat
- Airflow is obstructed
- Dirty evaporator coils
- AC size
- The condition of the Air Conditioning Repair Ridgefield WA
- The size of your residence
- Quality of insulation
- Leaking AC
